Caroline Wozniacki was born in the right family to be an athlete – both her parents were former, professional athletes. Her father Piotr Wozniazki used to be a professional soccer player and her mother Anna Wozniacki played volleyball for the country of Poland. In the late 1980’s, Caroline’s parents moved from Poland to Denmark because Piotr was recruited to a Danish soccer club in Odense. A few years later, Caroline Wozniacki was born in Denmark on July 11, 1990.
Since she was two, Caroline took part in a variety of strenuous, physical activities with her elder brother Patrik (older by four years). She even learned how to swim at an age that is relatively young compared to the average child. Her elder brother Patrik began to play soccer, and soon, Caroline desired to do the same. Patrik soon took on another sport – tennis. As before, Caroline followed her brother and began to pay close attention to his movement. Caroline soon acquired a deep love for the sport – at times, she would play tennis for outrageous amounts of time with her father. She could never get sick of tennis; instead, she would have to beg her father to play “just one more game” every single time. It was at the tennis club in her home town of Koge that she built her foundation for the sport.
Caroline quickly developed into a mature player. At only nine years of age, Caroline beat virtually every single one of her family members. In October of 2004, she achieved the singles title for the Osaka Mayor’s Cup in Japan, thoroughly proving her great potential as a future professional tennis player. She was only 14 years old. Thereafter, Caroline continued to succeed – she won a number of titles, the major event being the Junior Championship at the 2006 Wimbledon.
Currently, Caroline has already officially turned pro. She has won several Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles titles, including the 2008 Japan Open, 2008 New Haven, 2008 Stockholm, 2009 Ponte Vedra Beach, and the 2009 Eastbourne. In 2008, Caroline was celebrated as the Sony Ericsson WTA Newcomer of the Year at the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open. Today, she is the youngest player to be a part of the top ten singles players of the world.
